Car Rental Insurance in Armenia Explained

Rental cars in Armenia come with basic insurance, but the details — what's covered, the excess (deductible) you're liable for, and the deposit — vary by supplier. Knowing the layers helps you decide whether to add full coverage.

What's included vs. what full coverage adds

Most rentals include third-party liability and a basic collision damage waiver (CDW) with an excess — the amount you'd pay toward damage or theft. Full-coverage or excess-reduction options lower or remove that excess. On unfamiliar mountain roads, many travelers add it for peace of mind.

Crossing into Georgia: the green card

Standard Armenian rental insurance doesn't cover you abroad. To drive into Georgia you need a 'green card' (international motor insurance), and the supplier must permit cross-border travel. Arrange both in advance — you can't sort it at the border.

FAQs

Basic liability and a collision damage waiver with an excess are typically included. You can usually add full coverage to reduce or remove the excess — check what your own card or travel policy already covers first.
