Armenia's roads are increasingly camera-enforced, and the rules are strict on speed, seatbelts and alcohol. Knowing the basics keeps your trip (and your deposit) trouble-free.
Speed limits and cameras
Typical limits are around 60 km/h in built-up areas and higher on open highways (watch the posted signs, which change often near towns and works). Fixed and mobile speed cameras are widespread, and fines from camera tickets can be passed on to you by the rental supplier from your deposit. Stick to the limits — they're enforced.
Seatbelts, alcohol and being stopped
Seatbelts are mandatory and drink-driving limits are effectively zero — don't risk it. If police stop you (routine checks happen), stay calm and polite, and have your license/IDP, passport and rental documents ready. Keep them accessible in the car.
FAQs
Yes — fixed and mobile speed cameras are common, especially on highways and near towns. Camera fines can be charged back to you through your rental deposit, so keep to the posted limits.
